Police Scotland Appeal: Wildlife Crime Investigation at Balloan Park Pond

Police Scotland have launched an investigation following reports of a damaged swan’s nest at the Balloan Park pond in Hilton, Inverness. The incident is currently being treated as a wildlife crime.

Officials are calling on the public to come forward with any information that may assist in their ongoing enquiries.

Protecting Local Wildlife

Interfering with the nest of a wild bird is a criminal offence under Section 1 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981. This legislation is designed to protect wild birds, their eggs, and their nests, particularly during the vulnerable breeding season.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland emphasized the seriousness of the situation, noting that “destroying, damaging, or otherwise interfering with a wild bird’s nest whilst it is in use” is strictly prohibited by law.
