An Inverness man has been sentenced to 27 months in prison following the discovery of a “very large quantity” of extreme indecent material.

Ross Morel, 32, of Union Road, appeared at the Inverness Justice Centre where he admitted to possessing extreme pornographic imagery, including realistic depictions of necrophilia, sexual assault, and bestiality. These offenses took place on February 25, 2025.

Additionally, Morel pleaded guilty to taking and possessing indecent photographs of children between November 2024 and February 2025.

The Sentencing

Sheriff Gary Aitken, presiding over the case, described the volume and nature of the material as “troubling.” In his sentencing remarks, the Sheriff noted that a significant portion of the seized material fell into the “highest category” of indecency.

Addressing the defendant, Sheriff Aitken stated, “Every single child brutalised for your sexual gratification deserves protection. We have a duty to punish (offenders) and protect children.”

In addition to the 27-month custodial sentence, Morel has been placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register for 10 years and is subject to a Sexual Harms Notification Order.
