Big Boss Pizza & Wok & Noodle-Bar – A Case of Identity Crisis?
Located in Glenurquhart Rd, Big Boss Pizza & Wok & Noodle-Bar is an establishment that tries to wear many hats—pizza shop, Chinese takeaway, and noodle bar. Unfortunately, after trying all three options on separate occasions, I found it to be a classic case of “Jack of all trades, master of none.”
The Food: Style Over Substance?
The menu is sprawling and confusing. It is rare to find a place that can master both Italian and Chinese cuisine, and Big Boss is no exception:
The Pizza: Despite being the first name on the sign, the pizza is underwhelming and certainly not the best Inverness has to offer. For a place called “Big Boss Pizza,” the quality just isn’t there.
Chinese & Noodle Bar: The Chinese dishes and noodles are average at best. While they offer trendy “Munchy Boxes” (large pizza boxes filled with Chinese food), it feels like a gimmick—style over substance. Almost every other local Chinese takeaway offers a better, more authentic version of these dishes.
The “Panda Garden” Mystery
One of the most confusing aspects of the experience is the branding. While the sign says Big Boss, receipts and banking apps often show the name Panda Garden. Whether this is a partnership or a rebrand, it adds to the overall feeling that the business lacks a clear identity and focus on quality control.
Final Verdict
In a city like Inverness, where we have incredible dedicated pizzerias and authentic Chinese takeaways, there is simply no reason to settle for average. If you want great pizza, go to a specialist; if you want Chinese food, go to a dedicated takeaway. Big Boss tries to do it all but, in my opinion, fails to deliver on any of them. I cannot recommend this spot when there are far better choices just a short walk away.
